2024 J.LEAGUE YBC Levain CUP - Tournament and Match Formats

The J.League announces that the tournament and match formats of the 2024 J.LEAGUE YBC Levain CUP have been decided as follows.

With the exclusion of the three teams (Kawasaki Frontale, Yokohama F・Marinos and Ventforet Kofu) participating in ACL knockout stage, a total of 57 teams comprising 18 teams from J1, 19 teams from J2 and 20 teams from J3 are divided into ten groups.

 

Each group plays in a single-leg knockout format.

Ten winning teams advance to the Play-off Round.

 

*Each group fixtures in the 1st round are determined based on the rankings in the 2023 MEIJI YASUDA J.LEAGUE.

In case a 90-minute match (two halves of 45 minutes each) is played and no winner is decided, an extra 30 minutes (two halves of 15 minutes each) is played. If the winner is still not decided, the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Total of Ten winning teams from the 1st round play in a home and away double round-robin tournament.

 

Five winning teams advance to the Prime Round.

In case a 90-minute match (two halves of 45 minutes each) is played and no winner is decided, the match ends in a tie.

Team with higher numbers of wins will be the winner.

 

 

If two teams are equal on number of wins, the following criteria are applied to determine the winner.

 

①      Goal difference for two matches

②      30 minutes extra time (two halves of 15 minutes each) at the end of the second round

③      Penalty shoot-out

(Five players from each team. If the winner is not decided, the sixth and subsequent players will take turns to kick until the winner is decided.)

* Away goal rule will not be applied.

Total of eight teams comprising five winning teams from the Play-off Round and the three teams (Kawasaki Frontale, Yokohama F・Marinos and Ventforet Kofu) participating in ACL knockout stage play in a home and away tournament (There is only one match for the final).

 

Fixtures of Prime Round shall be determined following the draws after the Play-off Round.

[Quarterfinals and Semi-finals] (home and away)

In case a 90-minute match (two halves of 45 minutes each) is played and no winner is decided, the match ends in a tie.

The winner in each round is the team with the highest number of wins for two matches.

If the number of wins is the same, the following criteria are applied to determine the winner.

 

①      Goal difference for two matches

②      30-minute extra time (two halves of 15 minutes each) at the end of the second round

③      Penalty shoot-out

(Five players from each team. If the winner is not decided, the sixth and subsequent players will take turns to kick until the winner is decided.)
