J.League Global Football Advisor Roger Schmidt’s Appointment at Red Bull Football and His Future Activities with J.League

Mr. Roger Schmidt, Global Football Advisor for the Japan Professional Football League (J.League), has been appointed Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer. Following this appointment, Mr. Schmidt will continue to serve as the J.League’s Global Football Advisor and will ensure that the ongoing “J.League Global Football Advisor Project (Year 2)” proceeds as planned.

J.League Global Football Advisor Project is an initiative aimed at improving the competitive level of Japanese football and developing talent by sharing Mr. Schmidt’s football philosophy and player development and coaching methods with the entire J.League.  Last year (Year 1), we worked to share world-class approaches and evaluation criteria through coach education, knowledge-sharing sessions with sports directors at each club, and direct coaching of academy players.

During this phase (Year 2), we will continue to hold Academy sessions and strive to standardize the development environment and enhance competitiveness through training design, coach education, and the sharing of best practices.  In addition, we will organize European tours for the U-16 through U-21. Through matches against European clubs, training sessions, and data analysis, we will identify gaps between our standards and global benchmarks and apply the insights gained to youth development programs in Japan.

Regarding his appointment as “Head of Global Soccer” at Red Bull and the J.League’s Global Football Advisor Project, Mr. Schmidt commented,

“I am truly honored to have the opportunity to take on a new role within Red Bull Football, an organization that represents one of the foundations of my coaching career. At the same time, the J.League Global Football Advisor Project remains very important to me.

This project is about much more than sharing knowledge and experience. It is a long-term commitment to working together with J.League clubs, coaches, and players to help strengthen Japanese football through a global perspective.
